‘Making energy on the go’ courtesy of ’snapzdc’ Some day soon, you might power a streetlight simply by driving under it. The technology that could make that happen was tested yesterday at the entrance to the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown, with a special speed bump laid out in the driveway. Called MotionPower, this first-of-its-kind energy harvester will convert a car’s motion into electricity. It’s meant for areas where people are slowing down, such as intersections, toll booths, garages, and the like.

Being a medicinal herb that’s multi-purpose, the aloe vera plant is commonly used in hundreds of households around the world. Unlike some types of plants, this plant no longer thrives in the wild. The aloe vera is said to have its origins in Africa, with its relatives still living up to the present day. You can also find references of the plant in the Bible, which makes it one of the oldest documented species of plants known to man. Nowadays, this plant lives in captivity or grown by people for domestic purposes (for example, in the herb garden at home).

The Matter with Time Rethinking our Relationship to Time can Rock our World by Jesse Wolf Hardin www.animacenter.org There is something the matter with time, or at least the ways in which it is viewed in our society.  I have issues with it, though not the usual ones we hear voiced by hurried workers and harried students.  Most people’s complaints have to do with imposing deadlines and schedules they have trouble meeting, but I can accept that reality occasionally requires punctuality.

They’ll love learning how to plant using garden pots and it will help keep them from getting bored. Seriously, what could be better than growing their own food and getting their little hands dirty at the same time. Shoot, they may even be inclined to actually try some of the things they’ve grown that they wouldn’t normally try. I’ve seen my own son try a lot of vegetables he helped grow from our garden, so I know this works.

Here are some of the questions I asked and the  discoveries  I made. 1. Do I have to use pork in my soup beans to make them taste good?  After all, the less pork you eat the better. 2.

People want safe cleaning products and they ask us all the time for some recommendations.   You’ll see they save money in addition to saving the environment.  All you need are a few basic items which are probably already in your pantry. First, get a box of biodegradable Borax.   This product is billed as a laundry booster, but without phosphates or chlorine, it is a safe household cleanser when diluted with water. Borax can also be used as a pot scrubber.  Sprinkle some in the pan, wait a few minutes and then clean with a damp sponge and some muscle.

Fertilizer is needed by all type of plants as the source of the nutrients. Some people love to use the artificial fertilizer because it is more efficient and easy to be used. But after some terms of usage, it will ruin the soil composition. That is why farmers still use the natural fertilizer after the harvest to make the soil back to its previous condition. The best natural fertilizer that can be used to make the soil back to stable is compost.

By Sydney Johnston How often have you grabbed an energy drink when you’re tired and exhausted? Yeah, me too. But that’s a really bad idea because they harm your body. A better way to boost energy – and lose weight! – is to center your diet around superfoods. Natural energy, a leaner body. What’s not to like? Everyone sometimes needs a energy boost. The problem is that most of us reach for artificial energy – like a soft drink or other caffeine-laden goodie – instead of opting for a superfoods diet.

The apartment I live in is a dump; I have a lousy job and rarely go out. I spend all of my free time reading romance novels and dreaming of the life I will someday have.

So it’s Boulder, Europe and Boulder for the next two years approximately.

But there are some things that you should consider first before purchasing any of these plants for usage. Herbal medicine plants are drugs that should be treated carefully and respectfully. While these herbs are more natural than those processed drugs that can be bought in the drug stores, they still share many of the components that can be found also in prescriptive medications.

(www.Borganic.org) Thyme is a delicate herb which is both pungent and hot with a penetrating fragrance. It is also a fabulous herb for healing a large number of ailments. It is known to increase the flow of urine and to help in menstruation. It helps in the delivery process and prevents miscarriages; in fact, it cleanses all the organs of the body. The Abbess Hildegard von Bingen used thyme for nervous disorders, leprosy and paralysis.

You don’t need to let yourself get into this situation. You can look for cheaper alternatives with presents such as making your own gifts.

by Jodi Nations You’ve taken care of your lawn by watering and fertilizing and making sure that it is free of worms, insects, and diseases but it still looks unhealthy. It may be time to consider aerating your lawn. When the top few inches of earth become so packed down that the soil is unable to take in enough water and nutrients, aeration becomes necessary to revive the health of the grass and enable it to flourish. When the soil becomes compacted, the lawn starts to wilt and dry up because water and nutrients are not able to reach the roots.

First you must decide what size of garden you wish to plant and then select a place for it; somewhere that has good drainage, good air flow, and good, deep soil. It also needs to be able to get as much sunlight as possible. Because vegetable gardens have such tasty rewards, many animals, such as dogs, rabbits, deer, and many others will try and get to your veggies. One way to prevent this is to surround your garden with a fence, or put out a trap to catch mice, moles, and other animals.

Most corn-husk projects look best in natural color, but there are times you may want other tones. For bright and vibrant shades use commercial fabric dye. Put two teaspoons of dye into a large mixing bowl and add very hot water. Akd one or two drops of liquid dish detergent, which seems to soften the husks so that they take the dye more evenly. Or you can add a small lump of alum instead of the detergent. Put the husks in the dye bath, making sure they are all covered.

When growing oregano for use in the kitchen, there are two common varieties: ‘Greek Oregano’ can be used in Mediterranean style cooking. I just moved to an apartment in Oakland which has a huge backyard.  My housemates and I have discussed starting a sort-of urban farm back there.  Right now we just have dirt, two fig trees and a lemon tree.  Maybe some dog poop.  After reading Chloe’s post about FREE gardening in Berkeley , I decided to get online and find out if Oakland had FREE gardening resources so we could start our own.

Herbs can be grown inside your home by placing them in pots or containers. You may also put them in window boxes or baskets that are hung. Just like all plants, herbs need the basic requirements for successful growing: soil, sunlight, and water. Sunlight is important to herbs, whether they will be grown indoors or outside. Hence, you should place the herbs in the kitchen or somewhere in room that faces the south or the west to be able to acquire a great amount of sunlight.

A sermon preached on June 13, 1841, by J. C. Philpot, at Zoar Chapel, London.“And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.” (Ezekiel 17:24)It seems impossible, as Deer justly speaks, to chalk out a path of Christian experience, and to say that all the children of God shall walk in some precise path, which shall be particularly laid down.

For those who do not trust the pharmacuetical business, herbal medicine plants can provide a safe, healthy way to treat various aliments and diseases. However, there are a few things that you should consider before you invest in these medicinal herb plants and use them. Herbal medicine plants, just like drugs from pharmaceuticals, are products that should be approached with caution and respect. While they are more natural than the processed drugs you can buy in the drug stores, they still share a lot of the compounds found in over the counter medications.

Ever do a gift exchange with your family? How about Secret Santa with your co-workers? Or even watched in anticipation at a friends or child’s birthday party? The excitement builds and everyone can’t wait to see what unique holiday gift ideas the rest have gotten, and you just know that this year is going to be different. Finally the time to open the gifts has arrived, and you watch as all the gifts are opened and to everyone’s disappointment, the presents are the same old ones from last year, and the year before, and even before that one.

OK, confession time.  You might recall my earlier post about the diatomaceous earth and the bites I got from something I still don’t know what it is.  Well, I am finding that my housekeeping skills are … somewhat lacking.  Various excuses aside, I’m finally at the point where I have to make some changes.  To that end, the diatomaceous earth (DE) arrived last night, and in my reading about it and the benefits it supposedly provides, I decided to take this opportunity to perform a little

Organic Vegetable gardening is very different from conventional gardening. A great deal of care and preparation must be undertaken before you get started. You will need to know how best to prepare soil and know how to enrich it and also provide it with adequate protection from insects that can often do a lot of harm to your vegetables.
Healthy soils usually produce healthy plants provided you incorporate the right Ingredients into your preparation there is no reason why you should not produce healthy abundant plants.

My husband grows lots and lots of things in his garden and gives them to me.  Last week’s harvest was garlic…a whole bowl of tiny garlic (no fertilizers or chemicals in his garden!). It took me over an hour to peel all the cloves (at this point I will declare my love for hulu.com ).  There were 9.5 ounces when all was said and done.  There was also a distinct smell of garlic in the air.

This is a piece of fiction, inspired by a true life story. Any resemblance to any person’s life/incidences is purely co-incidental. Time passes and it gets lost in the unknown realms of its own quintessence. Every passing second is like thousand years and nothing can bring lost moments back, except words. Words are eternal and when they are locked in a book and only ‘time’ knows the significance of ‘words’ when they free the incarcerated memories. Time dies and gives birth to words and words to memories.

I’m trying to garden on my huge, south-facing windowsill. We’ll see how it goes.I’m Vegan. I grow cabbages, peas, carrots, corn, tomatoes and butternut squash and I use NO fertillizer what so ever.
