The other day, bf and I went to…. *cue music* uncommon ground. (land of “the best chai latte ever” :] according to bf… i must agree, they are tasty!!!)• Uncommon Ground is committed to purchasing seasonal, locally produced food for our menu whenever possible. Over the years we have developed many relationships with the farmers that we buy from. We make an effort to visit farms on a regular basis and we bring staff along to educate them as well.

When you think of Williamsburg, Virginia , a lively culinary scene is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. Strolling down Williamsburg’s Duke of Gloucester Street, with its understated colonial houses and interpreters clad in period dress, it’s hard to imagine that walking just ten minutes further will bring you to the doorstep of a restaurant where you can order foie gras and pan-seared scallops. What are all of my options and how do I even start a conpost. My goal is to have a herb garden in my kitchen or on my front porch so I really don’t need to mass produce or anything.

“Buy fresh, buy local.” It’s a bumper sticker slogan that our friend Ben thinks says it all. (Well, practically all; there’s also “No farms, no food.”) Saving money on food purchases and eating a healthy diet often seem to be mutually exclusive goals. But they’re not if you’re willing to reeducate yourself to eat as our ancestors did: seasonally. Eating seasonally means eating what’s ripe and abundant (and therefore cheap) in your area right now.
